Frequently Asked Questions
How do I appear on the map for other riders?
Tap the "Go Riding" toggle on your Profile tab. Your location will be visible to nearby riders within your selected search radius while this is active. It turns off automatically after 6 hours, or when you return home.
How does the home geofence work?
Set your home address in Profile โ Home Location. When you return within that radius (default 0.15 miles) while riding, the app automatically turns off your riding status and removes your location from the map โ no manual toggle needed.
How do I create a group ride?
Tap the "+" button on the Rides tab. Fill in the title, date/time, meetup location, and optional route stops. You can set the ride to Public (visible to all nearby riders) or Invite-Only (only people you share the link with can join).
What does invite-only mean for a ride?
Invite-only rides only appear to you and riders you've explicitly invited. They won't show up on the public map or the Rides tab for other users. Share the ride link directly with your crew to let them join.
How do I rate a rider after a group ride?
On the ride detail screen, after the ride's scheduled start time, a "Rate Riders" section will appear for all members. Give a thumbs up or thumbs down to each fellow rider. Ratings are anonymous and build each rider's community reputation over time.
Why did my riding status turn off automatically?
Clutch has two automatic safety shutoffs: your riding status expires after 6 hours to prevent your location from broadcasting indefinitely, and it also turns off when you arrive within your home geofence radius. You can always re-enable it on the Profile tab.
I can't see a specific rider on the map. Why?
Riders are only visible if they have "Go Riding" toggled on and are within your search radius. Make sure your radius (set on the Profile tab) covers the area you expect, and that the rider has their riding status active.
How do ride notifications work?
You receive push notifications when a new group ride is created near you, 24 hours before a ride you've joined, and 1 hour before a ride starts. Make sure notifications are enabled for Clutch in your iPhone Settings.
Does Clutch run in the background?
No. Clutch only checks your location while the app is open and in the foreground. We do not use background location tracking. The home geofence polls your position once per minute while you're riding and the app is active.
